Blake is a native Block Islander, whose family traces their ancestry to the original purchasers and settlers.  He attended the Block Island School and the University of Rhode Island. 

He started his real estate career in 1975 with Jack Gray Real Estate.  In 1978, Blake obtained his broker's license and he and Michele started Phelan Real Estate, which merged with Ballard Hall in 2000.

Blake enjoys the outdoors and his hobbies range from bird watching and gardening to sailing and skiing.  Blake and Michele, along with their lab, Brodie, reside on Payne Farm in the house built by his great-grandfather.  They have two adult children, Chelsea and Chris.
